Your site is some of the most blowhard crap I've ever read.

I did a search for "reason to live" on google.com. Yours was the second site on the list, oddly enough linking to a page with a letter from a young man who had done a search for "I want to kill myself". After a few sentences of your response, I saw what you were getting at. I'd like to assure you that your site is some of the most blowhard crap I've ever read.

Your quotation of "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. " is the most absolutely useless reference for somebody who has already gone mad attempting to come to terms with it. Belief is not a conscious action, it's nothing people can chose to and not to do. Sure people can say that they believe something and hide behind their feigned happiness, but is that what you want? A bunch of people saying they believe what you believe at the surface, while just slightly deeper they have no idea what it actually is that they claim to believe? "Accept Jesus into your heart" I keep hearing. Why accept? Are you that lost on understanding your own "beliefs" that you merely settle on accepting them? And what is it exactly, that we all must be "saved" from?

Concerned for your children who understand you less than I do,

My response is in Green:

Well I am sure my kids would be happy to know that you are concerned about them. You don't need to be however, because they do understand. It is up to them what they believe but they do understand what I believe.

You said that belief in not a conscious action, I disagree with you. You choose to believe or not to believe in all kinds of things every day. You choose to believe that there is a God or not to believe it also. It is your choice. Now maybe you never bothered to do any investigation for yourself in which case I can understand why you don't think you have a conscious choice, but you do. Maybe you should check into it for yourself. That was not my quote it came from Romans 10: (Romans 10:9 NIV) That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

Why not investigate whether Jesus rose from the dead? Try to prove He didn't, maybe it will show you enough to believe one way or the other. I will admit if all you have is someone like me telling you this and you never bother to check it out it would be hard to believe, but one other thing God says is that when you search for Him with all your heart you will find Him. Are you searching or are you comfortable with your eyes closed?

I will help you start your investigation, now if you refuse to even think about this stuff then quit trying to claim you don't have a choice, because you are making your choice. There is a lot of evidence outside of the Bible that a man named Jesus lived 2,000 years ago. That He did many mystical, magical, or miraculous signs and wonders, however you want to describe them. You can prove without the Bible that He had followers and that it upset the Roman government and the Jewish religious leaders. You can prove without the Bible that He was crucified for claiming to be the Son of God. You can verify that His followers scattered like frightened children trying to save their own skins.

Here is where it gets interesting, you can also prove without the Bible that His followers, came back together just a few days after His death and something changed. All of a sudden they were not acting like frightened children anymore. They were bold and reported that they had seen Jesus alive. They were beaten, and all but one of them were martyred because they would not recant their story and their belief in Jesus being raised from the dead. They went all over the known world and started churches, where those people were also persecuted but refused to reject their belief in Jesus Christ.

Now you have to ask yourself, why would a bunch of guys who three days earlier ran for their lives leaving their leader to die alone, all of a sudden be so brave and willing to die for what they claimed they saw? Lets say they did not really see Jesus because He did not raise from the dead. Okay why would they be willing to die for a lie like that? They did not get any riches from claiming this, they were beaten and hated and killed. Where did their bravery come from? Why wouldn't at least one of them renounce Jesus to save themselves?

Could it be because they believed, and that they believed because they really did see Jesus alive again? That is your choice and it is a real choice.

Look at what Christianity has gone through in the last 2,000 years. Many hundreds of thousands of people have been martyred since that time, yet Christianity still grows. Many governments have tried to outlaw and destroy the Bible yet it is the most widely read book in the world. Not bad for a book of fiction written by a bunch of liars wouldn't you say?

How do you explain the prophecies in the Bible some of which came true thousands of years after they were predicted? Some of which are coming true in our life time. How could anyone predict that the country of Israel would be destroyed and then at a future date (1948) come back together as a nation? How could people 4,000 years ago predict that a little city called Jerusalem would be the center of world conflict in the last days? Tell me it isn't true!! We see it happening today.

Maybe you have driven yourself mad trying to figure all of this out, but you should look at it from a point of view that you would look at anything else.

You mentioned that people can claim to believe and hide behind their feigned happiness. Well feigned happiness would not last. I will admit there are a lot of so called Christians like you described but those who really believe are not feigning anything. Why not go to a church and get to know some of the Christians and see where they came from. I have been there. I have not always felt the way I do now about Christianity. My happiness is true and it can be for you too. God changed my life and you can't argue that because I know He did. There are thousands of us whose lives were changed.

(Romans 1:20-21 NIV) For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. {21} For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. It is a choice for all of us. One day we will all stand before God, you won't be able to tell Him that belief was not a conscious action. It is not wrong to have doubts, but it is wrong to not try to find out the truth. To claim you have no way of deciding is to stick you head in the sand. If you prove to your own satisfaction that there is no God, then be happy. If you are right you won't ever have to answer to anyone. Of course if you are wrong, well just make sure you are not wrong by checking it out for yourself.

Let me ask you one more question, if you can't believe in God then does that mean you believe in evolution? If so you have a major problem because evolution takes much more blind faith than Christianity ever will. Creation itself cries out that there is a God. Your body cries out that there is one. Hold your hand up in front of your face. There are trillions of cells that make up what you are seeing. They all have a function. They all came from two cells, one from your mother and one from your father. The DNA code in just one of those cells has the entire blueprint to create you. Can you truly believe there is no God? Let me show you what God says about that: (Psalms 14:1b NIV) The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.

Not one of us can claim that we have never done anything wrong. We are all sinners. God is holy and His holy nature demands that our sins be paid for, by death. Yet He loves you and me and sent His only Son to die in our place. It is that simple, either you will pay eternally for your sins in hell or you will accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and allow His blood to cover your sins. There is no third choice. Trust me it is worth checking out for yourself.
